I love goals. I love to make them, accomplish them and cross them off my list.
However, many people have become dissuaded with goal setting as it either has to be a Top 10 list you create for the New Year, or we’re so encumbered with arbitrary due dates and qualifiers, we fail to enjoy the process of creation.
I’m of the mind to list everything you want to do, and track it along the way. As long as you’re moving forward, you’re closer to achieving your goal. Sometimes life gets in the way, or it takes multiple years to accomplish a goal. If you can’t cross it off your list, you can get disheartened. Not with my method!
I’ve devised my own system to organize all my goals – not just my top 10 – into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, which stemmed from a process I used when I first began to work with my friend to build our individual businesses. (See 1+1=3: Finding Success through Friendship.)
It’s easy for me to keep updated notes, contact information, websites, etc., all in one place, with multiple years in one Excel workbook. I also set up Excel workbooks for singular projects with multiple elements. When the project is complete, everything is at my fingertips as reference for a future project.
